My Saturday started at 5:30 AM because I had to bring my daughter Brittany to LSUE to take her ACTs. The trip there was uneventfull enough to skip here. We had 4 hours to kill in Eunice while she was testing. After the manditory trip to Wal-mart (George was there) we headed to the Cajun Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Upon entering the building we discovered there was no electricity, making all attempts at photographing any of the exibits next to impossible without creating horribly hard shadows from the on camera flash. However we were able to see well enough to enjoy the stop. Especially after finding an old friend's picture and profile hanging on the wall. Mr. Ledel "Blackie" Forestier who was inducted in 1997. I worked with Blackie at his "Day job" for several years in the late 90's. Blackie was a great guy and I'm proud to have known him.
Next we walked next door to the Eunice Museum. At least they had lights! Not enough to shoot availible light though so I tried turning down the on camera's flash output and managed to get almost usable pictures of some of the attactions. George had a blast when the lady in charge let us into the old train cabbose they had outside.
Then we moved on to the Acadian Culture Center AKA Jean Lafitte National History Park and Preserve. This place is more like a "real" museum complete with Forestry Service Rangers on duty.
I spoted a nice looking steeple as we were leaving so we decided to investigate. We found a pretty interesting church so I shot 111 pictures of it!
By this time it was getting close to Noon so we headed back to LSUE and walked around campus
We wanted to stop at the Mowata Store for some of the best for a while stoping at the fountain. where we sat until Brittany finished her testing. Boudin in the state of Louisiana. We weren't disappointed. It was wonderful. The Cracklin wasn't bad either.
That was the end of our morning in Eunice. In all I took 663 pictures many of which will be promptly deleted.
Till next time...
